10001 Nightmares Party

[Fic] weep not for the sound of silence (Biggles)

Notes:

Look, I just finished Biggles and the Rescue Flight and it is a travesty that there aren't any Thirty fics. I shall have my revenge. Thou can not stop me.

En garde :D

Work Text:

Thirty waited until they were alone—this did not take a great amount of time, as the entire aerodrome was quite busy—and then he dragged Rip to the first quiet corner he spotted. There, he hunkered down on his heels and glanced around once more, but it seemed like they were indeed alone. Rip followed him down, murmuring, "I don't think anybody's paying us any attention," and indeed even the few eyes that slid their way continued to slide right on. It seemed, Thirty found, that now that they'd gotten their assignment and been bundled around into the right clothes, nobody much bothered with them.

Which was jolly good, in Thirty's opinion.

Biggles had gone and so, it appeared, had the rest of the aerodrome gone with him. Thirty checked once more, just to be doubly sure, and then bent closer toward Rip. "I..." he worried his bottom lip for a moment, eyebrows furrowing. Tossing one more look about—for one could not be overly cautious, of course—he said, "I fear I might have dragged you into something quite silly."

"You're quite right," Rip stated and scooted forth to nudge their shoulders together, waking Thirty from his sudden despondency. "Sitting in a corner like this when we could be eating? Quite silly, I would say."

Thirty huffed. Crossing his arms over his chest, he stood back up and rocked on his heels for but a moment. He gazed at Rip. Aside from the weariness of the travel, Rip did indeed look to be in great shape. And it was not so that Thirty in any way doubted Rip's friendship, for they had had a perhaps great number of adventures together; they shan't be speaking of such things, of course, and naturally they knew nothing of it. But the combination did manage to make Thirty exhale, and he shook his head at his own foolishness, for he knew better than to ever doubt Rip. "You're right, of course," he admitted, and Rip grinned at him.

He grinned back, naturally. It was exceedingly difficult to not grin back at Rip, Thirty had found over the length of their companionship, and it was no difference today. Rip dragged him along, then, headed toward the mess where they might get some food. They had not eaten since they'd gotten in their borrowed planes, and Thirty found now that Rip was of course right; hunger curled low in his belly and was certainly the reason for his quiet mood.

They were going to rescue Forty. Thirty knew it. There was no doubt in his mind, and even if there was, he was quite satisfied that at least he was doing something; should it all come to naught he would say, with all knowledge, that he had tried all he could, and Forty must surely be proud of him. And so it was that Thirty could draw himself up high and catch up with Rip properly, instead of being dragged about like a particularly life-life doll, and accompany him to the mess where, at last, they fixed themselves their first proper meal of the day.

Notes:
