Work Text:

Sakura walks out his door and is blinded by the sight of a thousand sparkling red roses. Blinking, he rubs his eyes and yawns a little, and the large bouquet of roses is lowered enough for him to spot the person behind them; "You wanna fight?" Sakura asks Togame Jo, raising his fists and moving into a battle-ready stance. This is kind of an odd way to declare a challenge, he thinks, but maybe Togame is mocking him.

Togame says, voice muffled by the roses in front of the lower half of his face,  "I'm not challenging you."

Stilling, Sakura narrows his eyes, but he does slowly lowers his hands, relaxing his pose, and finally leans against the door-frame. "What, then?" he blusters, and feels the beginning of a blush spread over his cheeks as his mind goes to other reasons one might give somebody a bouquet. But they're not for him, then, he thinks. Togame is probably giving them to some pretty lady, or maybe that Choji guy, after this---whatever this is.

Togame tilts his head, staring down at Sakura. His eyes are placid, but they have that kind of hidden depth in them that makes Sakura think fighter and always has, and it's part of what makes him so fascinating. At least now that he's no longer a scumbag, that is. Before that, it was a pathetic kind of fight, the kind that simply wallowed in one's misery. "These are for you," says Togame and holds the gigantic bouquet out, and Sakura catches 0it on reflex when Togame lets go. As if Sakura is just gonna let something as beautiful as this hit the ground.

Then he has a gigantic bouquet held to his chest and he stares down at it, unsure what he's supposed to do with it. He's never gotten flowers before; of course not, who would want to give flowers to somebody like him?

But.

"I--" Sakura scowls when he can't think of anything to say, and glares at Togame. "Water?" he finally asks.

"I'd love a glass of water, thank you," says Togame and wanders into Sakura's place as if he owns it. Sakura doesn't even think to stop, hurrying in after and trying to think if he owns anything he could put the flower in so they don't die. Or wither. Or die and wither.

Wait, isn't that the same thing?

Togame stays firmly in his line of sight, at least. But then, there isn't much space in Sakura's place for Togame to go. "Don't move," orders Sakura and plops the flowers in the kitchen sink, putting in the little thing into the hole at the bottom so water can't escape down the pipe, and then turns on the faucet and fills the sink with a little bit of water, tries to make sure all the flower stems can reach it. He ends up fiddling with it for a few minutes, trying to make it just right.

"You know, you need to cut the stems," says Togame after Sakura has put his hands on his hips, pleased every stem has water access.

Turning his head, he growls. "Hah?" he demands, and realizes suddenly that Togame is just behind him. And he's---tall,  and in the half-shadowed light of the kitchen, he looks.  Well, he's handsome, Sakura thinks. That's a normal thing to think, right? They fought, they've had their conversation, they understand each other. So it's not weird that he thinks Togame is handsome. Really, he looks much better these days. "Why didn't you say so earlier?"

"You're cute when you're concentrating," says Togame, and doesn't sound particularly sorry about it. He shrugs a bit, and pokes Sakura's red cheek. "You're cute when you blush, too."

"I'm not cute," protests Sakura, glaring and blush growing hotter. He sneers, "I'll fight you any time."

"I'm counting on it," drawls Togame, and grins. Like a wolf, Sakura thinks, and his eyes narrow. He looks Togame up and down. The guy is up to something, he knows. That's the 'I'm scheming so don't get in my way' expression.

"What do you want?" Sakura demands, crossing his arms over his chest and raising an eyebrow, refusing to allow this bullshit to go on. Something is up and he's not going to be blindsided by it.

"Go on a date with me," says Togame, and Sakura's brain breaks. When he's aware of reality again, his blush is so fiercely hot that it feels like his face is on fire and he can't say anything for a long moment, blubbering nonsense every time he tries. at least Togame does him the favor of not remarking on it, but that doesn't mean he isn't staring and taking it all in, Sakura notes.

Finally, Sakura draws himself up tall and declares, "I'll take you on the best date of your life," and doesn't really comprehend what he's saying until it's done. But he won't take it back; if he's going on a date with Togame, he's not gonna let it be some kind of half-assed date, no matter how serious Togame might or might not be. No, they're going to do this properly. "Thanks for the flowers," says Sakura, and pushes Togame out of the way. He spins and pulls a knife off the knife stall, whatever it's called, and gets started on cutting the stems.

The flowers really are beautiful. And it is a good start for a proper date, he thinks, blushing catching on the tips of his ears.

Togame hums behind him, and the sound shivers down Sakura's spine. He bites his bottom lip and refuses to turn his head. That'll just be giving in, and he's not gonna make it easy for Togame, of course. If Togame is serious, he's gotta prove it. Put in the work and all that.

"We're going bowling," Sakura declares, and it's been half an hour and he's not sure what Togame is still doing here, but the guy hasn't left. He lingers in Sakura's place, watches Sakura, studying him, and it should make him feel a bit uncomfortable, but Sakura likes it. He doesn't often get studied that seriously; most people take one look at him and think they know everything about him, and that doesn't really change even if they do get to know him. But Togame looks at him like he's always finding more questions and searching for new answers, and it's kind of riveting.

Licking his lips, Sakura's stomach flutters. He hides it in a decisive turn of his head, pulling out his phone and slouching on the tiniest couch he's ever known, pretending he doesn't notice Togame's unceasing attention, the heavy weight of those eyes. He does, though, is the thing.

He notices it---a lot.

Hiding further behind his phone, Sakura ignores the beat of his heart, too, the nearly frantic thumping in his warm chest, and waits for Togame's next move.
