Work Text:
"I don't see the problem," Grimmjow admits, kicking the corpse out of his way and sauntering over to Ichigo. "And anyway, you promised me a fight. Are you trying to get out of it?"
Ichigo sighs. "You know I'm not," he says, putting a hand on Grimmjow's chest and keeping him away. Grimmjow clicks his tongue but stops, tilting his head and looking at Ichigo for answers. This fight has been scheduled in for months, and Grimmjow isn't about to let Ichigo sneak his way out. "But really," Ichigo says, "Did you have to kill him?"
Grimmjow blinks. He looks around, and ah yes, there's the corpse of a nameless human behind him. "There was no other way," he drawls and doesn't even bother trying to sound apologetic.
Ichigo stares at him.
Finally, Grimmjow shrugs. Scuffing his foot on the asphalt, he says, "He was in the way," and hopes Ichigo isn't going to get all moral about it.
"I have no idea who that was," Ichigo says.
"Then there's no reason to be upset," Grimmjow points out.
Ichigo steps around him, walking up to the corpse and lightly poking it with his bare toe, his flip-flops flopping under his feet. "Hmm," he hums, looking to Grimmjow and raising an orange eyebrow. "He was not in the way."
Grimmjow spreads his stance and grabs his sword while the human's soul finally realizes it's been murdered. He figures if he distracts Ichigo quick enough, he can get the soul as a snack when Ichigo isn't looking. "The guy was tying to interfere in our fight," Grimmjow defends himself.
"He couldn't even see you," Ichigo huffs a little, his tension beginning to dissipate when he realizes that Grimmjow isn't about to go on a rampage. He eyes Grimmjow, smoothly sending the soul onward to Seireitei and Grimmjow clicks his tongue, annoyed his food got away from him. But he's not about to push the issue and so he merely tilts his head and licks his lips, leering a bit too obviously. Ichigo's huff turns into a quiet laugh, and when another human gets a bit too close, Grimmjow decides to see where he stands in Ichigo's eyes. It's not someone Ichigo knows, anyway, and so when Grimmjow's sword knocks the guy's soul right out of his body, leading to instant death, Grimmjow is secure in his knowledge that hey, at least Ichigo isn't gonna have to worry about funerals.
"Oh, for-" Ichigo snaps his mouth shut, stalking over to the new soul and sending that one onward, as well. "Are you doing this prove a point, or something, asshole?" he demands, and Grimmjow shrugs. He doesn't really know why; but he didn't like the way that first guy looked at Ichigo (like he was going to eat him up and obviously Grimmjow is the only one who gets to do that) and he doesn't like the way Ichigo doesn't seem to mind.
Obviously, if anybody is gonna get to bite on Ichigo, it's gonna be Grimmjow.
"He was annoying," Grimmjow at lasts offers up like a peace offering.
Ichigo rolls his eyes. "He was five meters away," he drawls.
"Five very annoying meters," Grimmjow defends. He rests his sword on his shoulder and sways on his heels. "So are we gonna do this or not?"
"Of course," Ichigo says, stepping out of his body and flawlessly letting Kon take over, who promptly complaints about the corpses. Grimmjow rolls his eyes, grabbing Ichigo's hand and carting him away. Soon enough they're flashing over the rooftops in search of the garganta Grimmjow left open so they can quickly get to Hueco Mundo and go all out; none of this fancy caring about collateral damage stuff that puts so much stop over their fights. Grimmjow wants that desperation, that kill or be killed rush, and he can't very well get that in the human world without pissing off Ichigo and being ignored for a few months.
And that's just not an option, now that they've got a steady thing going.
The fight is enjoyable to its utmost degree; they always are these days, and when Grimmjow wipes blood off his jawbone at the end, so exhausted he can barely stand while Ichigo lingers beside him, always cautious to make sure he didn't hurt him too badly, Grimmjow only wants more. More, more, more. He wants to eat Ichigo, wants to be eaten, wants to claw his way inside his chest and stay there, be trapped there, wants Ichigo to never, ever let him go.
But for now, he's content to let Ichigo pull him up, to lean on him for a moment, to drag in the smell of blood and delight that he made Ichigo work his victory, as monstrously powerful as he is. Delight in the knowledge that Ichigo is here, with him, focused only on him, and oh, how he aches.
But there's no need to rush. Grimmjow has never been known to let go of what he wants, and it's only a matter of time before Ichigo realizes this, too.
