Work Text:
His head is already aching when he opens his eyes, and he blinks up at the sunny sky far above. After a moment, he realizes the shadow that blocks part of it is a person, and then he realizes that this person is the prettiest, most lovely, most beautiful person that he's ever seen.
Not that, he also realizes, he's ever seen another person.
Oops, he thinks, sitting up and still staring at this sublime heavenly vision. That can't be good. "Shaoye, shaoye," somebody calls, shaking his shoulder and flopping his head about before he remembers that he has a neck that can hold it in place. He makes a soft noise, eyes wide, and the person above him---pretty, so pretty, he thinks---smiles just the slightest bit; but it's enough to break his mind in two, and he clears his throat, attempts to gather himself together and sit properly. The breathtaking smile widens, and then falls away when he doesn't do anything else. "Shaoye," somebody says, shaking him again, "Are you alright?"
"Probably not," shaoye---if that is his name---says, scratching at the back of his head and wincing at the pounding pain. The beautiful person's eyes narrow, a tiny motion that's barely noticeable, and they lean in closer. Man, he thinks. Or woman? He can't tell, spots of color still dancing in his vision, and the bright sunshine behind them doesn't help. "I can't remember anything," he says, and grins. "But who are you?" he asks what most surely be the most beautiful person in the world as he's let go and somebody wails in despair right behind him. He pushes them away without taking his eyes off the prettiest person he's ever seen, and the wailing gets louder, calls for a doctor echoing around him.
Smoothly, the pretty person sinks onto his knees before him, and stares into his eyes. He stares back into them; can almost see his own reflection in them. He wonders what he looks like, then that thought is lost as the person before him sighs, and says, "Zheng Huaien," and he thinks, he's a man, then Huaien adds, "Your fiance."
Oh.
He presses his hand to his chest, and it feels like he's about to float away. "Oh," he says, and smiles. "You're the prettiest person I've ever seen."
Zheng Huaien smiles a bit, again, then, and he pulls him to his feet. He sways a bit in Huaien's grip, but the touch is strong, effortlessly holding him, and he exhales when his legs feel ready to support him again. Huaien, Huaien, Huaien, he thinks, rolling the name on his tongue as a woman he assumes must be his mother nearly tosses herself at him, weeping and restarting the calls for a doctor, but he doesn't pay much mind to that. Not when there's a warm hand holding his, and his heart is beating too fast to count, a rapid fluctuating in his chest that rattles his whole body. He can't stop staring at Zheng Huaien, can't tear his gaze away, and he forces down a shuddering inhale when Huaien takes more of his weight, pulls him closer into almost an embrace.
Fiance, he thinks, and grins. And he thinks maybe Huaien grins back.
Notes:
just a quick ficlet. (presume the amnesia clears up without issue, lol.)
