This is my Yuletide 2024 exchange letter. Welcome! I'm TisStrangerEerierAndPreposterousUsername on AO3 and I delve into lots of smaller fandoms :D I'm a perpetual lover of rarepairs (help) and am super excited for my first Yuletide.

This letter is based on my General Exchange Letter, and has been expanded. I've put optional prompts under the individual fandoms.

I have a preference for ship-fic but am not fussed about what kind of ship-fic; pre-relationship (first meetings, etc.), getting together, established relationship, second change romance, toxic/problematic relationships, a love confession scene, etc. is all good :D

General Likes

My tastes run varied and wild; I like domestic fluff and some crack treated seriously just as much as I do angsty fics that tear my heart out (provided they heal it again, LOL); I'm just as much up for dark romance (as long as it adheres to my DNWs) as I am a fluffy lighthearted, heartwarming romance; terrible characters doing terrible things and also being in love (with potentially less terrible people?) is fun, good people willing to commit murder when their lines are crossed is fun, a cozy walk under the starlight is fun! A lot of things is fun!

In general, I like it when things are mutual. Characters mutually manipulating each other is good, mutual pining is good, mutual obsession, mutual protectiveness etc are all good. I like characters enjoying each other presence, knowing each other and supporting each other, and appreciating each other, even if the things they appreciate are superb murder skills, lol.

I like worldbuiling, character studies, crack treated seriously. Taking a silly concept and running it to the most serious conclusion. Logistical worldbuilding like laws, and transportation, and agriculture and production lines. Digging into the setting, so to speak.

I like monsters and aliens and unexpectedly sentient creatures in love. I like morally ambiguous/immoral characters in love, I like loyalty and devotion and characters sticking by each other. I like characters getting out of bad situations and choosing, perhaps, to not forgive somebody who's hurt them. I like characters moving on, and healing, and finding joy.

I like characters overcoming setbacks, and learning how to deal/live with setbacks they don't/can't overcome, i.e. chronic illness, permanent/long-term disability etc. I like characters making the best of things, in apocalyptic settings and so on. Sometimes things can't be fixed, and that's okay. (But also sometimes things can be fixed, and that's okay, too (i.e. fix-it fics, lol).

Smut

I'm cool with anything from no smut, to fade to black, to extremely explicit smut. I don't particularly care about the sex itself; it's the emotions that do it for me. It can be super kinky, it can be super vanilla; I want pining, tension, enjoyment, love, etc. They don't have to be exclusively good feelings; trepidation, fear, desperation etc. are all good too, but if there's gonna be smut I want something beyond sex for the sake of sex.

In general, I like it when the characters enjoy the smut, too—whether that's reluctantly, enthusiastically, begrudgingly, didn't-think-they-would-but-is-actually-really-into-this, etc. Undernegotiated/Unnegotiated kink is okay.

I like intimacy, emotional and physical, and I like characters wanting to make each other feel good. I like it when there's trust in the smut, and worldbuilding, and character studies.

Dubcon/Noncon

I'm okay with dubcon! No asterisks! Go wild! :D

When it comes to noncon, I don't DNW it (but I do DNW underage noncon, if that's relevant), but I do prefer erotized noncon. The kind of noncon where everything sucks, is super traumatic, disgusting, gross, etc. is of no interest to me; I would like the more inner conflicted erotized noncon, perhaps with a side of forced enjoyment on the victim's side ☠️ Or like the no-no-yes kind of dub/noncon, the victim-to-lover pipeline (however willingly, LOL), etc.

Dark Content

A couple of the fandoms I'm requesting are pretty dark, canonically. I want to assure you that I'm very much a-okay with canon-typical fucked up content/relationships, including "problematic" ones—barring anything that falls under my DNWs. To put it simply, my DNWs override canon events. By this I am primarily referring to teeth stuff—I DNW teeth trauma/loss; it is, not overstating it, my biggest DNW. And I know it canonically happens in some of the fandoms I'm requesting! But please, don't even reference it.

Now, on more general lines; I have no problems with unhealthy dynamics, unhealthy relationships, problematic pairings, etc. When I DNW unhappy endings etc. I just mean that the main character shouldn't be dead, miserable, unhappy, brooding, wallowing in regret etc. at the end. I want my main character/pairing happy! But everybody else can die for all I care, LOL.

It's perfectly fine for it to be a fucked up happy ending, too. Like the MC embracing being murder husbands and going off on a road-trip killing spree with their lover; I'm sure lots of other characters will be very unhappy about that, but I only care about my blorbos, sorry.

Dark Romance/Erotica Tropes I'm Definitely OK With, If You Want To Go There: Abduction/Kidnapping • Sex Auction • Stalking • Obsession • Psychopaths/Sociopaths in Love • Murder Husbands • Forced Relationship • Blackmail • Power Imbalance/Dynamics • (Mutual) Obsession • Codependency • Twisted & Fluffy Feelings • Corruption

That said; just because it's a darker canon doesn't mean I wouldn't also low a fluffy, lighthearted, wholesome, etc. fic for it. Canon-divergence! What-ifs! For want of a nail! They're just super happy and together and have a healthy relationship, and you know, also kill people if that makes 'em happy! XD

Gore & Violence

I'm okay with violence, but I don't want graphic depictions of gore. Blood is cool, have fun punching each other, sword fights, guns etc all good, but I don't want detailed descriptions of brain matter and guts; and also no teeth stuff. Like, it's okay for a character to get tortured but I don't want torture porn and I'm not interested in a steb-by-step description of the torture.

Relevant DNWs: teeth loss, nail & eye trauma, loss of limbs (this includes tongue) (it also includes partial limb loss).

This is such a fun show! Such lovely characters and fun dynamics, and I just absolutely adore Xiaobao and Huaien. I want them to be happy together! (And possibly for Huaien to get to murder people, you know, as a treat!) I'm not picky. I fell hard and fast for this fandom and yet there... is so little fic.

Biggles - W.E. Johns

This is a series of like, I don't even know, 60+ books written over a thirty year period? I started off with Biggles Flies East, personally, and highly recommend it!

So I've only read a handful of Biggles books, but I just really love them. I wanna read more! I adore all the character dynamics that I've found so far, and all the spaces for what-ifs, canon-divergences, and AUs :DDD

Biggles Flies East: The first one I read and it took over my brain for a moment. Definitely AU's of this, canon divergence, what-ifs, it-could-have-gone-like-this-but-Extra-Gay, etc. <333 I crave Flies East fics, you don't even know.
Biggles and the Rescue Flight: The one and only Biggles fic I've written is based on this book! Somebody nominated Thirty and Rip! I would absolutely adore Rip/Thirty fic, there is nothing, feed the beeeeeaaaast :DDD
Biggles and Co: Great time, loved the banter, LOL.
Biggles Follows On: Currently reading, not quite halfway through. I like what I've seen of Ian so far, though! I see the appeal! :D
Biggles Learns to Fly: I was curious how Biggles got started XD
Biggles the Camels are Coming: Just finished! My favorite part is when Algy goes off on a flower-bombing revenge spree, it's great.
Biggles and the Cruise of the Condor: Overall a fun adventure. I do like case fics, missions, 'we need to figure out a way out of this' fics. (CW: racism)

The Collector Series (Movies)

I was gonna look through the freeforms for Prisoner Ex to find more prompts but I've already got so many...

The Collector Series is two movies + one unreleased movie. In the first movie, a thief (Arkin) breaks into a house only to find a nightmare waiting for him; the Collector, a murderer that likes torture, has set his eyes on the household and filled it with traps, and is on the hunt to kill everyone inside. And it turns out getting out is no easy task.

There's a sneaking around sequence in this movie that I just absolutely love, and also it should have been 200% gayer, I'm just saying. I haven't actually finished watching the second movie yet, though. I'll hopefully have done so by the time Yuletide reveals, so don't be afraid of spoilers! :D

In the second movie, Arkin is forced to go back the Collector, in order to try to save a rich man's kidnapped daughter.

I love the chasing/chased dynamics, the cat and mouse games, the predator/prey thing. I love Arkin's competence, and how he does go back for the kid in the end. (There isn't, as far as I know, a canonical name for the Collector, but the fandom seems to be using Asa Emory as his name sometimes; I would be okay with this if you want to do that! :D)

Strangers From Hell (TV)

Corruption galore, and it's hot, is all I'm saying. Do you like Hannibal? In that case, I think you should give this kdrama a try! This is a one-season TV show in which Yoon Jongwoo, newly moved to Seoul for his girlfriend, moves into a rundown apartment building, Eden. Except things are... weird.

There's murders! Corruption! Blood! A mystery! Guys having conversations on rooftops! Scheming and manipulation! What's not to love? (I highly recommend these fics in my bookmarks, if you're new <3)

Psychopath Diary

Available on Viki, Psychopath Diary is a one-season kdrama, in which a mild-mannered, hardworking office employee witnesses a murder, snags the murderer's diary, and is promptly hit by a car. He loses his memories, and assumes the murderer's diary is his; and while at first he protests the notion he's a murderer, as time goes on it seems more plausible to him...

It's comedy, suspense, and murder attempts. The perfect combo! I would be okay with both fluffy and/or angsty fics :DDD
